I have been out of the loop for a while and this topic may or may not have been covered.
I was brain storming about a small, light-weight saw for each of our BOB's. I have tried those wire saws and ended up breaking them in the first minutes of use. I have limited amount of space in my bag as does the wife.
I need some opinion as to what you fine folks think of putting a recipricating saw (sawz-all) blade in a pack. I have one for my saw that they call the "demolition blade". I have used this - with the saw - to go through nails, screws, wood, drywall, copper pipe and electrical wire (unfortunately it was all at the same time when I was doing "house repair" but that is another story). They are light, tough, sharp, inexpensive and come in a variety of lengths.
I can already see one downfall and that it has no handle, but I have used saw knives and proptly broke the handle anyway. Maybe I am too hard on my stuff???
Anyway, I would seriously like some input on this.

I found this UK site while surfing the net. Excellent photography and interesting equipment. I'd be interested to see what you think of his grab bag, or as he calls it, his "possibles bag", which include quite a few interesting items. How would you review it's contents for a bag kept in a vehicle?

I was at work (EMS)(T.S. Fay) and my employer provided 3 boxes of 'meals' for us should we need them. They were Sun Meadow brand. www.sunmeadow.com Since the date was 12/08 we decided to try one of them....I didn't have breakfast and was short on food so I figured not only could I get a meal but also try an item I'd never had before.
My partner opened the box and in it were 2 'large' cans. One labeled 'Beef Stew' and the other 'Chicken and Pasta'. You have to 'puncture' the 3 holes with the provided 'pin'. Also open the top to stir occasionally This allows the air in and the heat to be generated. 7-9 minutes...hot food. First thing we noticed was that the 'inner can' was a 'normal' size soup can. The outer can looked huge at first..... until you see the inside can....Next thing noticed....it didn't get hot. Not even warm.......
Ok....holes punched. Food stirred.....smell and YUK!!!!! My partner was brave enough to try it. I will quote him....,"I've had dog food that tasted better." I smelled it.....I can honestly say I was nauseated by it.....
Ok lets try the 'anti-oxidant'energy chews......also horrible....the canned orange juice (bluebird brand) was good. Slight bitter taste but may be the metal can it was in. The raisins were ok.
Has anyone else ever had them? What are you experiences with them......We never opened the chicken and pasta...

I was traveling back from a retreat in Washington State last week and dang it TSA took my 14 year old Gerber multiplier. I forgot to take it out of my EDC backpack and put in my checked baggage.
As soon as the lady pulled me aside I knew it had to be an EDC item I'd forgot, I was thinking, "Please, please, please, don't be my Mk1."
I was hoping it'd be a lighter but alas my trusty Gerber got binned.

What is the best (easiest to ignite) natural tinder to use that you have found to work quickly?
Dried leafs worked well (I had a fire going with 3 strikes, but other material doesn’t seem so fire friendly. Sawdust from my garage didn’t work as woodchips from a chainsaw (been laying in the backyard for a month so they were dry) did not want to light. I tried making a fizz stick with a knife and it lit with a lighter but not with a spark. Also very dry pine needles (all brown and dried out) did not want to do anything but smoke.
Drier lint is the best thing I have found, it works the first time every time, even if one spark hits it, it jumps into a flame. But I want to get good at it with found materials.
